Comparison of Countertop Materials to Consider For Your Kitchen

Comparison of Countertop Materials to Consider For Your Kitchen

When it comes to choosing countertop material for the kitchen in your luxury home, there are a lot more factors to consider than just how it looks. Because a kitchen’s countertops have such an impact in the appearance and functionality of the room, choosing the right high-end material is important. Here are 5 different kinds of luxury countertop materials, some traditional and some trendy–that are igniting the imaginations of home owners across the country.

Granite

Granite comes in an array of colors and patterns, and is one of the most recognizable countertop materials on the market. It is extremely durable and will resist scratches and stains better than almost any other material. Granite countertops are also heat resistant so you can set a hot pan down without any worries. The drawbacks to granite are that the seam quality is not always invisible and it is susceptible to some household chemicals. Chipping is always a possibility and it requires periodic sealing as well. It is one of the more expensive materials per square feet.

Marble

Marble’s unique pattern makes it highly desirable for kitchen countertops and its durability is remarkable. Marble countertops are a little more susceptible to scratches and stains than granite, but remain very resistant to chipping. Marble countertops won’t absorb moisture and maintenance is a breeze. The look of marble, especially white marble, automatically elevates any kitchen into luxury status thanks to its long association with prestigious buildings across the glob. There’s no doubt that marble is an excellent choice for countertops in a luxury home.

Copper and Other Metals

The demand for new styles, colors and textures for kitchen countertops has led some designers to delve into materials that people wouldn’t normally consider, like eye-catching metals. The trend toward metal countertops, like copper, zinc, stainless steel, pewter and bronze is at an all time high, and its easy to see why. With a unique sheen and visual features that change and deepen over time, copper countertops are a tapestry of rich greens, browns and reds. Copper countertops are very easy to clean and maintenance is a breeze, but the surface is more susceptible to scratching than stone. It’s a modern look with timeless elegance, and many home owners feel that the high price tag is well worth it for a one-of-a-kind look.

Glass and Cement

While your initial reaction to glass and cement countertops may be one of disbelief, this trendy new material combination is creating some of the most stunning kitchen looks around. With the look of terazzo and plenty of color options to choose from, glass and cement countertops are the real deal. They are very durable, scratch resistant, heat resistant and stain resistant when sealed, and that’s why the material is some of the most expensive on the market. Best of all, glass and cement countertops are made with recyclable material so you are also living green when you choose this type of countertop. When you enter your beautiful kitchen, you want to be proud of how it looks. You also want it to meet your needs as you cook, clean and entertain. As with any home remodel, make sure you think about the impact of the resale value when selecting the right material for your countertops. In a luxury property, it’s even more important for you to choose a material for your countertops that reflects the high quality of your home.
