It’s time to build your dream home! Before you jump in, we want to share some ways you can save money. Don’t worry; you’ll still be able to do everything you want – these tips will just be bonus for you, so that you don’t spend more than you have to.
Know What You Want
Through our experience helping people build their dream home, we’ve found people waste the most money changing their mind. When they have one thing installed or ordered and change their minds, they almost always lose money in some way. Don’t do that to yourself. Be sure to research what you want thoroughly, so you know exactly what you want the first time around.
Ask the Builder
If you have a budget in mind, the best person to ask what you can and cannot do is the builder. He can let you know the estimated cost of everything, so you can where your priorities are. It’s a good idea to have everything mapped out in the beginning and then you can take out what seems to be adding too much to the final cost.
Shop Online for Fixtures
Fixtures’ costs can add up quickly. When looking to save money, you can shop around online and have them delivered to you or the builder. All you will have to pay for is the installation, which can be a huge savings to you.
Buy Your Own Appliances
Most people prefer to do this anyway, but it’s worth mentioning because some builders will add in the appliances that look best in the home. You can save a lot of money by going to appliance stores in your area and choosing everything you need through them. They usually have sales throughout the year, and discounts if you buy multiple items.
Take Advantage of a Builder’s Discount
Builders often receive special discounts since they are such good customers. Before you buy anything in the community, ask your builder if he does business with that retailer. You may just be able to get a discount on your purchase.
Consider the Mortgage Rate
Mortgage rates matter when you are trying to meet a monthly budget. Shop around with different lenders, so you can find the one that gives you the best rate.
Select a Less Expensive Lot Location
Each lot has its own price. Weigh the pros and cons of every lot and of course the price. You may be able to get a lot that’s much less expensive that you will be just as happy with if you just keep an open mind.
