What to Know Before You Move To Park City, Utah

March 2, 2021 by Jensen and Company

Since the onset of the global pandemic in March 2020, many people are looking to hang up their city shoes and move somewhere more isolated and closer to nature. Relocation to non-urban areas has increased substantially over the last year, with millions of Americans seeking solace in the serene.

One location that has seen a large influx of homeowners is Park City, UT. Dubbed “America’s Winter Playground,” Park City is home to incredible restaurants, breweries, ski lodges, and hiking trails. It has hosted major events such as the Sundance Film Festival and the 2002 Winter Olympics.

While Park City is known for outdoor adventurers, it’s also rated one of the best cities for jobs in the US– having grown over 15% in population in the past decade. Relocating to Park City is becoming an enticing move for people looking to expand their careers, raise their families, and experience the ultimate adventures.

The Cost of Living in Park City

According to The Salt Lake Tribune, Utah ranks as the 28th most expensive state to live in the United States. In Park City, the average cost of a house is a little under $1,356,000 These homes can be a good option for someone looking for a primary full-time place, as well as someone looking to add a seasonal escape.

Compared to the national average, Park City’s housing expenses are 164% higher. Although these numbers may seem daunting, the cost-of-living balances out, with costs such as retail and food running 22% lower in Park City than other major cities across the US.

Park City Utah Neighborhoods

Park City offers multiple neighborhoods that provide a unique and matchless experience for living in this beautiful city.

Silver Springs

Silver Springs is an excellent spot for young families looking for a quieter life with an easy commute into the valley. Homes range in design and prices, but the community as a whole is harmonious and robust. The flat streets, convenient access to the city, proximity to nature, including Swaner Nature Preserve, and a family-friendly ambiance make Silver Springs a fantastic location for any potential homebuyer.

Jeremy Ranch

Jeremy Ranch’s proximity to Utah’s capital, the valley, the mountains, and some top golf opportunities make it an incredible location to live in Park City. Since it is a bit outside the major ski resorts, the prices tend to be lower. The majority of residents in this neighborhood live in large single-family homes year-long, which creates a consistent and connected community.

Trailside

When looking for a family-oriented neighborhood, you can’t go wrong with Trailside. There are excellent schools nearby and many other families in the community. The single-family homes in this area are moderately priced, well designed, and great views of the mountains. These homes are also close to Kimball Junction, a place with great shopping, dining, and activities.

Things to Do in Park City

One of the best things about living in Park City is all of the incredible things to do. Park City offers impressive opportunities for adventure, a connection to nature, and cultural experiences. Whether covered in snow in the winter or wildflowers in the warm summer months, there is no shortage of things to do in Park City.

Utah is known for having some of the best ski resorts in the nation. Park City is near Park City Resort, Deer Valley, Brighton, Alta, and Snow Bird. These resorts offer a wide variety of runs for everyone, from beginners to experts, and their mere presence keeps property values in the area stable.

The main street in Park City has an almost otherworldly feel, perfect for a change from the peaceful surrounding area. The street is filled with award-winning restaurants, shopping, wine tasting, and breweries. Spend the day immersed in the area’s diverse culture, or spend the night soaking in your hot tub, looking up at the stars

The world-recognized Sundance Film Festival happens at the beginning of every year in our very own Park City. Sundance is such a unique experience that gives excellent exposure to independent films and filmmakers.

There are 53 moderate hiking trails located in Park City alone. Many residents often live here and go their whole lives without going on all the hikes possible in the city. If you’re looking for a bit more adventure, a short road trip will land you at some of the countries’ most incredible national parks, such as Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, and Arches National Park.

There are also multiple recreation activities such as fly fishing, sledding, mountain biking, and white water rafting nearby. Fishing is as easy as grabbing your rod and heading to a nearby stream. There are many fishing opportunities locally, ranging from guided tours to equipment rental to self-supported adventures.

There is ample opportunity to explore the area by bike or ATV with so many hills, mountains, and trails. Also, the area boasts some of the best white water rafting rapids in the world.

Insider Tips and Tricks from Area Experts

Sometimes, the Main Street of Park City is blocked off. The city will often block the main street from cars so pedestrians can freely walk, shop, and dine. This is yet another appeal that makes this city so great and pedestrian-friendly.

There is hiking, biking, and camping on islands in The Great Salt Lake, not very well known to most. There are actually 17 official islands in the lake, and some of them are open for adventure.

Park City is frequently rated one of the Top 10 cities in the US for Jobs. If you are looking for new housing and career or adventure, Park City is a great place to plant roots!
